5/13 - South African Mezze
Today's post is going to deviate from the norm (once again), mainly because our lunch was extra special! Today's lunch was a South African Mezze, with foods like spicy chicken liver, beautiful red rice, and South African style barbequed wings and ribs. My pictures really didn't do our meal justice, as I was too busy enjoying the food.
At this point, you might be wondering what a Mezze is. It's not a type of food, but rather a style of eating. In a traditional mezze, a number of different dishes are brought out one after another, and eaten family style with a group of people. It's quite similar to a collection of Spanish tapas coming out of the kitchen one at a time, except that a Mezze usually puts enough food in your stomach to feed a small village, instead of being just appetizers. Interestingly enough, at the restaurant, water wasn't included in the 20 Euro bill. Instead, there was an unlimited supply of wine, both red and white, and beer. Seeing as there was no other choice, our group decided that it was in our best interest to take advantage of our present situation. I kept it light, and only drank a beer and a half (which I will admit widened my appetite quite a bit), but a number of our party had become a rowdy mess by the time the ribs had come out - but at the end of the day, what's a mezze without getting mess-ay?

Notes on Nutritional Info - I've come to realize that the website from which I am getting my nutritional information has had some inaccuracies in recording macronutrients - especially when it comes to vitamins, fiber, and protein. Therefore, I will mainly be relying on the food tracking to count my dinner calories rather than to count macros - I'll simply have to keep an eye out for macros based on prior knowledge and a diverse diet.
